The Glaciar Viedma is one of many large outlet glaciers, reaching from the Southern Patagonian Ice Field down in eastern direction. The glacier terminates in the Lago Viedma, a glacial lake which formed in the Pleistocene. The glacier terminus can be reached by boat, whereas the upper portion of the glacier - forming part of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field - can be viewed best from the air in case of good weather. For this purpose it is advisable to book a window seat on the east side on regular flights between Puerto Montt and Punta Arenas.
