These two islands in the Magellan Strait notheast of Punta Arenas consist of Pleistocenic till. Both islands are combined into the natural monument Los Pingüinos, in order to appropriately protect their rich fauna. Whereas Isla Marta is mainly known for its colony of sea lions, the larger Isla Magdalena serves a colony of Magellanic penguins as breeding place during summer and can be reached through commercially offered boat tours.
